Bring map skills to life with this fun and creative Design a Park Activity! Students become park planners as they cut, paste, and arrange features like trees, playgrounds, and ponds to design their own community park. Along the way, they’ll build important geography skills by creating a map key, adding a compass rose, and answering questions using cardinal directions.

This project encourages creativity while reinforcing social studies standards in geography and community planning. It also supports ELA standards as students practice reading directions, labeling symbols, and writing responses to comprehension questions.

 What’s Included:

  • Park map template
  • Cut-and-paste park feature pieces (trees, swings, pond, benches, etc.)
  • Map key template for students to create their own legend
  • Compass rose practice
  • Comprehension questions about relative location and map features
  • Step-by-step instructions
