"Finally, a social studies curriculum my whole family loves! It is so fun and engaging, with little to no prep work for the parents! My kids are always excited to do the lessons, and having the state standards listed makes it so easy for our HST to know exactly what they’re learning." -T. Sheek

"I have been homeschooling for 13 years and I have done so many different history curricula along the way. I've been using your 4th grade and pilot testing the My World, My Story this year. Both have been PERFECT for us, EXACTLY what I’ve been dreaming of! Thank you." -C. Schneider
FAQs
How do you teach a lesson?
Stories in History courses are literature-rich and activity-based, so students learn through a combination of great books, meaningful discussion, and hands-on activities.
A typical lesson might include:
- Read a picture book or selection from the recommended book list.
- Discuss or journal about a key question related to the topic.
- Explore the topic through an activity such as a craft, game, map, cut-and-paste worksheet, recipe, or project.
Not every lesson looks the same! Some days may include a recommended video or movie, while others focus more heavily on reading, discussion, or a hands-on project.
For Ancient Civilizations, Medieval History, and Modern American History, additional informational readings are included directly in the course. Students can also choose from recommended chapter books to incorporate into their regular reading time.
Every course includes a Suggested Pacing Guide for families who want more structure, while still giving you plenty of flexibility to adapt lessons to your child and your homeschool.
Are your courses open-and-go?
Yes! Stories in History courses are designed to be as open-and-go as possible. Lessons include the readings, instructions, worksheets, maps, and activities you need right in the course, so you can simply open the book and get started.
Some lessons include optional recommended books, videos, or hands-on projects that may require basic supplies or a little advance planning, but these are clearly noted. Suggested pacing guides are also included to help you easily map out your school year.
The goal is to give you a rich, engaging history experience without hours of prep for the parent or teacher.
How do you create your content?
Every Stories in History course is thoughtfully developed with a focus on making history engaging, meaningful, and easy to use. I research and organize each course, align content with relevant educational standards, develop lessons and hands-on activities, and carefully review and design every page with students and families in mind.
Like many modern creators, I use a variety of tools throughout the development process. This may include artificial intelligence for brainstorming, research assistance, drafting support, editing, and select visual elements. AI-generated material is never used without human review and modification.
Every course is ultimately developed, edited, reviewed, and designed by me, with careful attention to historical accuracy, age appropriateness, educational standards, and—most importantly—creating a learning experience that helps kids genuinely enjoy history.
Do your courses align with standards?
Yes! Stories in History courses are designed with educational standards in mind. Courses are aligned with relevant California History–Social Science Standards as well as the national C3 Framework for Social Studies, making them a great fit for homeschool families, charter school students, and traditional learning environments across the country.
Because history standards vary by state and grade level, specific alignment may differ by course. Each course includes standards information so you can easily see what is covered.
While standards help guide the content, they don't drive the entire learning experience. My goal is to go beyond checking boxes by helping students build historical understanding, make connections, think critically, and genuinely enjoy learning about the past.
Do you take charter school or ESA funds?
Yes! Please visit my charter school and ESA pages to learn more.
Are your courses secular?
Stories in History courses are written from a neutral perspective and are designed to work well for families with a wide range of beliefs and backgrounds.
When topics involve religion, culture, politics, or differing historical perspectives, the goal is to present them accurately and respectfully without promoting a particular worldview. Whenever appropriate, multiple perspectives are included to encourage critical thinking, discussion, and meaningful conversations between students and their families.
Rather than telling students what to think, Stories in History helps them learn about the past, consider different perspectives, and develop their own understanding.
Where can I find the book list for each course?
Most of the books recommendations for my courses can be found on my Amazon storefront here.
