Bring Ancient Egypt to life with this engaging Canopic Jars reading and hands-on craft activity!

This resource helps students understand Egyptian burial practices, mummification, and religious beliefs through a student-friendly informational reading followed by a creative craft project.

Students will learn:

  • Why mummification was important in ancient Egypt
  • Which organs were removed and preserved
  • The role of the Four Sons of Horus
  • The connection between religion and burial practices
  • Why the heart remained in the body
  • How canopic jars were used in tombs

After reading, students create their own canopic jars craft using toilet paper rolls (or rolled construction paper). They will:

✔ Color and label the Four Sons of Horus
✔ Match each god to the correct organ (liver, lungs, stomach, intestines)
✔ Assemble and build their own set of jars
✔ Demonstrate understanding in a hands-on way

This activity makes abstract religious beliefs concrete and memorable.
