All About Me, My Family, and My Past
Share
Hi friends! Today we’re going to learn about something very special—YOU! Did you know you have a history? Yep, even kids do! Your history is made up of your stories, your family, and the things that happened before today.
Past, Present, and Future
Think about your day. This morning is the past—it already happened. Right now is the present—it’s what you are doing. Tonight and tomorrow are the future—things that haven’t happened yet.
- Past = Already happened
- Present = Happening now
- Future = Not yet
Your birthday last year is in the past. Eating lunch right now is the present. Your next birthday is in the future!
My Family and Me
Families are part of your story. Your parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are all pieces of your history. Some families are big, and some are small. Some live close, and some live far away. Every family is unique and special!
You can ask your parents or grandparents questions like:
- What games did you play when you were little?
- What was your school like?
- What did you eat for lunch?
This helps you understand how families lived in earlier times—before cell phones, video games, or even cars!
Then and Now
Think about your own life:
- Then (Past): When you were a baby, you drank from a bottle and crawled.
- Now (Present): You can eat pizza, ride a bike, or read books.
- Future: Someday, you might learn to drive, go to college, or even be a parent yourself!
Your family’s “then and now” might look like this, too:
- Long ago, your grandparents may have used a typewriter. Now, people use computers and tablets.
- Long ago, kids walked to school or rode in a horse-drawn wagon. Now, many ride in cars or buses.
✨Activity Idea
Create a personal timeline! As part of the My World, My Story 1st and 2nd grade curriculum, we've included a personal timeline that you can build with the help of your parents.
Remember
Learning about yourself, your family, and the past helps you see how things change over time. You are part of history, and your story is important!
