Why Homeschooling Has Been a Blessing for Our Family
Looking back, there are so many reasons I’m grateful we made the switch from public school to homeschooling. It’s hard to narrow it down, but I’ll give it a try…
1. A Calling from God
I never thought I would homeschool. In fact, I used to say I would never homeschool. But when God puts something on your heart, you can’t ignore it. I felt a strong pull, a sense that this was the right path for our family, and honestly, I’m so glad I listened. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
2. Efficiency in Learning
One of the biggest surprises for us was how much more efficient homeschooling is compared to traditional school. My girls can complete all of their lessons in just 3-4 hours, 4 days a week. This gives them so much more free time to explore their interests, play, and enjoy field trips. We spend time with other homeschool families, engage in extracurricular activities, and they’re not stuck at a desk all day. Instead, they get to be outside, creating, and learning in ways that public school never offered.
3. Closer Connection and Less Drama
Homeschooling has allowed me to be more involved in my children’s lives. I get to see them grow up, and I know what’s going on with them every day. We have very little friend drama now. I know what they’re struggling with, and I can offer the support they need. And I love that we start each day with Bible time, giving us the chance to bond spiritually. If there’s ever something random I want to teach them, I can do it. The freedom to direct their learning in a meaningful way has been priceless.
4. Learning at Their Own Pace
Homeschooling allows my children to learn at their own pace, something that was not possible in public school. My oldest, for example, struggled with reading in a traditional setting. She was an average student, and because of that, she often slipped through the cracks. The comparison with her more advanced peers affected her self-esteem. Now that we’re homeschooling, she’s gained confidence and is catching up—she’s doing great in math, and there’s no fear in asking questions when she doesn’t understand something. My youngest, on the other hand, is very advanced, and I can work with her at a higher grade level. Homeschooling has truly allowed each child to thrive in their own way, without the pressures of being compared to others.
These are just a few reasons why homeschooling has been a blessing for our family. Honestly, it’s hard to capture the full experience in just a few paragraphs. The bond we share, the joy of learning together, and the peace that comes with knowing I’m shaping their education in the way that’s best for them has been priceless. My girls have no desire to return to public school—they love being homeschooled, and I do, too.
Homeschooling isn’t for everyone, and it does require hard work—especially for the mom. But if you feel even the slightest nudge, I highly encourage you to give it a try. It has truly transformed our family’s life in so many positive ways.
